Education Alternatives in Hialeah, Florida

Miami-Dade County Public Schools serves Hialeah, Florida. It is the largest school district in Florida and the fourth largest in the United States, and as of February 2007, had a student enrollment of 414,128. It is also the second largest minority public school system in the country, and one of a few public school districts in the United States to offer optional International Studies Programs and bilingual education.

There is a total of 392 institutions, including 195 elementary schools, 54 middle schools, 10 k-8 schools, 33 high schools, 8 magnet high schools, 23 Adult/Vocational Centers, 50 charter schools, 16 alternative schools, and 5 specialized centers.


Miami Dade College Hialeah Campus is one of Florida's public community colleges, and has eight different campuses, each having various outreach centers: North, Kendall, Wolfson, Medical Center, Homestead, InterAmerican, Hialeah, and West. It enrolls approximately 160,000 students, and was established in 1959, although it opened the next year. It opened as Dade County Junior College, and facility was built on an old naval air station nearby Opa-Locka Airport, which would soon become the College's North Campus. Around 1973, the college changed its name to what it is now; Miami-Dade Community College.
